The newest edition of Form I-9 is available in electronic and print formats. The current Form I-9 is valid until January 21, 2017.
Along with supporting identification, Form I-9 helps confirm both citizens’ and noncitizens’ identities and their eligibility for employment within the United States.
The newest edition will help speed up the hiring process because the questions offer more clarification as well as easier-to-fill fields for electronic completion (which will still require employer and employee handwritten signatures).
U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement conduct more than 3,000 I-9 employer audits annually; the number of audits are expected to rise this upcoming year.
