The Delfina family of restaurants was founded by husband and wife, Annie and Craig Stoll. They opened their first restaurant in 1998 in San Francisco where they first met. Annie had gone to Penn State for her bachelor’s in restaurant management while Craig studied at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. They both ended up in San Francisco years later, ready to take their restaurant careers to the next level.  On their first date, they talked about combining Annie’s front-of-the-house expertise with Craig’s back-of-the-house experience. Delfina started off as a neighborhood trattoria serving simple Italian food and great hospitality. Since then, Annie and Craig have opened 6 additional restaurants over the course of 22 years. “It has always been very important to us to be genuine and caring with our guests so that we always maintain that neighborhood feel,” said Annie.

All their locations remained a huge hit until the pandemic of 2020.  Like many businesses during that time, they were faced with some tough decisions. After having to close the doors on two of their restaurants, they took this opportunity to shift in a slightly new direction going forward. The original Delfina restaurant will be undergoing some changes that include a space expansion and a full bar. While they are under construction, they will continue to operate their business regularly and expect to re-open with those changes in the fall of 2022.

In addition to the remodel of the additional location, Annie & Craig have started a retail component to their business where they are now selling their delicious pizzas frozen so customers can take and enjoy them at home at a later time. These pizzas are now available in about twenty local grocery stores and at their other locations. This decision came as a response to keeping their staff employed during these difficult times and has now turned into a successful outcome.

When talking about her favorite aspect of this 22-year long journey Annie said,

“We love the restaurant business simply because we love connecting with guests and our staff, it’s a people person business and they’re long-lasting lifetime friendships we’ve created along the way.”
