Just like any breakup, the unknown is scary. How can you move on? Will anyone be as good?
Switching payroll providers can feel the same way.
It’s intimidating at first, but eventually becomes completely manageable. Sometimes a short-term inconvenience is worth the long-term efficiency (and happiness).
Here are the six reasons you should break up with your current payroll administrator:
1. You’re not getting the attention you deserve
A lot of payroll providers specialize in specific company sizes. If your company is too small, you’ll be on the back burner to their larger clients. If it’s too big, they may not be equipped to handle your issues.
2. They don’t listen
You’ll end up repeating yourself with providers who have high employee turnover and call centers because they aren’t up-to-date with the needs of your business, workforce, or local legislations.
Choose a provider who offers one point of contact and who understands the importance of tenured employees. Having a tenured representative’s direct phone number can help you expedite your tasks because they are familiar with your business and workforce as well as local/state/federal laws influencing how you run payroll.
3. You need more
Many companies now offer integrated platforms so you can manage onboarding, time tracking, benefits, and payroll all within one system.
4. They can’t grow with you
Businesses grow and businesses shrink; your payroll provider should seamlessly transition you (in either case) while keeping you in compliance.
5. You’re wasting time
Whether it’s filing avoidable tax amendments, correcting deductions, or inability to get a hold of a live person, your payroll staff’s time is better spent on other administrative tasks. Choose a provider who values your time and understands the importance of efficiency. Not just getting a task done.
6. They aren’t keeping their promises
We’ve all been schmoozed by that charming salesperson who promised way more than their company is capable of. Even if it is a genuine misunderstanding, there is someone out there who can give you what you need.
Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side, and that other side is filled with extra time, higher morale, and a bright future.
