Left Coast Catering has been helping people celebrate special moments since 1994. As a full-service catering company, they provide not only the food, but everything you might need for an event. Event services include: custom menus, bar and beverage service, tableware and specialty items, staff for your event, floor plan, lighting design, photography, tenting, valet services, flowers, lounge furniture, and more.
Payroll Systems spoke to owner and Executive Chef, Laurine Wickett, to learn more about what inspired her to begin this successful endeavor. She shared with us that after she attended the Culinary Institute of America, she started doing private dinners for Silicon Valley executives. This went so well that she he moved on to catering weddings and other events, and the business eventually grew from being part-time to a full-fledged catering company.
Some of the typical events Left Coast provides service for are corporate events, launches, cocktail parties, weddings, fundraisers, conferences, and board meetings. Each event menu is tailored specifically to customer needs and taste preferences. There are seasonal menus already built and available for customers to choose their favorite appetizers, entrees, and desserts from. The food on the menu can be described as California-seasonally inspired with a twist of different international cuisines.
In addition to event services, Left Coast also does workplace food delivery. If you want to provide food at your next company meeting, network session, or working lunch, their delivery hours are from Monday-Friday, 7AM-5PM. The menu for this type of service ranges from breakfast, lunch, and appetizer platters. Dinner isn’t off the table if it can arrive no later than 5PM.
Operating a catering company has its own challenges when it comes to the HR space! In addition, staff is needed at both events and in-house. Left Coast has a total of 20 full-time employees and 50 on-call employees for staffing events. Laurine mentioned that coming into the business, her background was exclusively in culinary and didn’t know much about HR. Kitchens are a unique environment, so being able to stay abreast with new regulations and staying in compliance is key.
Left Coast Catering has been a client of Payroll Systems since 2018. They currently use our Timekeeping and Payroll Services. “We wanted to start using cloud-based timekeeping, so employees can punch in and out both at facilities and offsite via mobile device. Our end goal is to have all our HR operational needs addressed in one format. Payroll Systems offers a completely integrated system and the resources we need to stay informed and compliant in the HR space,” Laurine stated.
