Oren’s Hummus has been a Payroll Systems customer since 2011
In 2011, Oren Dobronsky was a successful Silicon Valley investor with four start-ups under his belt. However, Oren was disappointed with one thing in this technology hotbed area. He could not find the type of quality hummus he was used to in his home country of Israel. So, being a motivated entrepreneur, Oren decided to do something about it.
Six years later, with the support of operation owners Mistie and David Cohen, Oren’s Hummus now has three full service restaurants, a catering company, and over 230 employees. Oren’s Hummus is supplying freshly made hummus as well as a full-service breakfast and lunch menu to folks throughout the Bay Area. They also currently cover eight separate farmers markets, have recently signed a deal to sell at Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers, and will be opening two more restaurants in 2018.
Whew! That’s a lot of hummus.
Mistie Cohen, a 20-year veteran of the restaurant industry, is president of Oren’s Hummus, LLC. “When I met Oren, and saw the passion that he had and the team he had assembled, I knew this was something I wanted to be involved with,” says Mistie who also runs a restaurant consulting and management company called EyeSpy.
“Oren started this for his love of hummus the way he believed it should be. He couldn’t find the quality he was looking for here, so he decided to take matters into his own hands.” What is so special about Orens Hummus? “We offer a wonderful, healthy, and fresh menu to everyone, with any diet! We serve vegetarian, gluten free, allergy free, and we also cater to meat eaters. Our ingredients are imported; not store bought, and constantly made fresh for every single shift.”
So how does a fast-growing restaurant chain stay on top of their human resource demands? “We have some unique challenges with our fast growth, employees working between their multiple locations on ‘split shifts’, and needing to keep our overtime expenses as minimal as possible.”
Oren’s Hummus uses a combination of PeopleMatter.com, and Snag-a-job for locating and training top talent. They work closely with Payroll Systems for their payroll, tax filing, ACA reporting, as well as their employee self-service portal which allows their team members to stay up to date with this rapidly changing environment and view their paychecks, and year end W-2’s.
