The Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce has been a Payroll Systems customer since 2006
For over 90 years, the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce has been helping businesses through a wide variety of programs and events. Since starting in 1926, the Chamber has been the voice of local businesses, working both with new startups as well as well-established companies.
The Chamber has had a long-standing relationship with Payroll Systems, and we wanted to explore their story a little deeper. One key to the Chamber’s success is their mandate to stay impartial to the many political forces that are constantly tugging them in different directions.
Jay Hoyer, the President and CEO of The Walnut Creek Chamber, equates the nonpartisanship to the ongoing growth and development of their committees. Currently there are four committees that the Chamber manages:
- Ambassadors —“The goodwill arm of the Chamber of Commerce.” They are the coordinators of events including the four ribbon cutting ceremonies scheduled the same day as this testimonial interview.
- Business Links—A noncompete business network.
- Education—Businesses, educators, and government officials unite to create programs that directly improve the quality of the Walnut Creek education system.
- Civic Affairs—The committee responsible for monitoring and analyzing the pros and cons of community activities and developments. Although they assist with parking lot and meter planning, they cannot assist with parking tickets. Regardless of the numerous phone calls they receive from individuals about the issue, they cannot assist with parking tickets.
The committees wouldn’t be possible without their members. Businesses aren’t required to join the Chamber of Commerce, but there are numerous advantages of the membership.
By joining the Chamber, it’s a validation of business and an automatic trust as well as an automatic support system with other businesses. Payroll Systems is part of that ensemble.
Accounting Assistant, Marilyn Schmidt, has the duty of processing payroll. Partnered with her Payroll Systems account manager, Monique, Marilyn can get her payroll tasks on time.
“I’ve done accounting my [whole career] and I tend to miss deadlines. [With Payroll Systems] I don’t have to miss deadlines. Monique has been amazing and is always responsive.”
Payroll Systems has been a trusted partner for the Chamber, handling payroll, tax service, and other HR services, since 2006.
The Chamber isn’t just about business. It includes fun activities too. Linda Vesneski, Membership Sales Director, gave some insight on the programs and annual events the Chamber holds.
The Art and Wine Festival is exactly what it sounds like and attracts over 100,000 people. The two day festival features local artist, breweries, wineries and even has a kid zone for the little non-drinkers to enjoy.
And the events don’t stop there, they hold an Annual East Bay Women’s Conference, a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, and numerous Business and Social Hours (BASH). All of these events run in the midst of their eight-month Leadership Contra Costa program.
Leadership members meet one weekday a month for activities such as police ride-alongs, and tours of San Quentin prison, with the common goal of improving their community.
Many of the Leadership Contra Costa Alumni unsurprisingly go into government positions and run for local offices.
The Leadership course creates a growing ensemble spreading the one goal of fairness amongst their communities.
Between their committees, members, and events, the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce enhances the quality of life in Walnut Creek.
