TriNet Acquires Zenefits: What You Should Know

TriNet, a provider of human resource products has recently announced that they will acquire Zenefits. Zenefits is a cloud-based HR platform and software company. Upon completion of the acquisition, Zenefits will become a subsidiary of TriNet.

Subsequently, this means that TriNet could become a preferred supplier of PEO and HRIS services for Zenefits customers going forward. The acquisition will close in the coming months which means current Zenefits customers can expect to see the changes soon.

Anytime there is a change in the services you use for Payroll & HR services, it is a good opportunity to assess these practices and products to determine whether or not they are still a good fit for your organization.

Trinet Acquires Zenefits- What does that mean for you?

Ask questions and evaluate your options.  Discuss the acquisition with your HR partners – such as your insurance agents, tax, and financial advisors.  Take a little time to analyze your payroll and HR technology and processes to identify what works and what needs improvements.  Review your costs by looking at the details of your payroll invoices over at least 2-3 months to verify you are utilizing the services you are paying for.

Determine what qualities you value in a service provider. Keeping everything in mind, consider what qualities would put a service provider at the top of your list.

  • Customer service needs- Do you have easy access to the answers to your questions? Or is it sometimes difficult to get assistance?
  • Web-based platforms- Does the company offer online tools and account representatives that will help you learn and understand them?
  • Additional services- Does the company offer additional services that are both helpful to your business and available at the same capacity as their payroll services?

Moreover, it is important that you do your research. Talk to people you know or trust. Get references from other similar businesses in your area. People that are satisfied with their payroll service provider will be happy to give you share their honest experience. Similarly, make sure to read the fine print on what they are offering and what is changing. This is important for understanding what it is exactly that you are paying for.
